A Whale of a Tale, National Museum of Singapore

Kids of all ages, with a toddler play area of their own, and families who'd like two very different play areas in one outing.

Changi Beach Park playgrounds

Playgrounds at one of Singapore's oldest coastal parks, among them a kampung-themed one with wooden play equipment and rustic nature play areas, and a sea-themed one in the sand with a boat. Coastal PlayGrove, East Coast Park

A 1,300 sqm nature playgarden made from natural materials around a beach-discovery theme, with balancing logs, mini nature trails and lookout decks. Some pieces let children of all abilities join in: a raised sand play table, lookout platforms reached by ramps, a wheelchair-accessible trampoline and a musical play station. Children of all abilities, including wheelchair users, and outings with grandparents, since the same garden has a therapeutic garden and a fitness area for adults.

Seashell Park sea dragon playground, Pasir Ris

A playground shaped like a huge sea dragon, more than 10m long, with slides, climbing nets, swings and nooks for hide-and-seek, plus a tall play tower with a winding slide and a small Viking boat. Kids who like to climb and play hide-and-seek.

Tampines Green Forest Park

A big estate playground whose tall towers, joined by bridges, have cargo nets to climb high above the ground and a slide to come down, plus a separate sandpit playground with smaller climbing frames for younger kids. Big kids who like to climb high, with a sandpit playground for younger siblings.

Black-and-green playground, Jurong West Street 65

A black-and-green play structure with an arched bridge, a climbing wall, a noughts-and-crosses panel and slides, one of them a black tube slide, with a pair of swings beside it. Kids who like to climb, slide and swing.

Fire station playground, Boon Lay Glade

A fire station-themed playground where the old Jurong Fire Station stood, beside the station's original seven-storey hose tower, with a big red fire engine to climb aboard, a play tower dressed as a fire station with firefighters' poles, red and yellow tube slides, an in-ground trampoline, a climbing boulder, seesaws and swings. Toddlers have a corner of their own, with a smaller fire engine and a tunnel. Kids who love fire engines and pretend play, toddlers included.

Tip: The toddler corner is separate from the main playground, so little ones can play away from the bigger kids.

Forest Ramble, Jurong Lake Gardens

The largest nature playgarden in the heartlands, spread over 2.3 hectares, with 13 adventure stations where kids move like the animals of a freshwater swamp forest, from squirrels to otters. It also has inclusive play elements, so kids of all abilities can play together. Kids who like to roam and explore, including kids of different abilities.

Fruit and treehouse playgrounds, Plantation Grange, Tengah

A cluster of playgrounds themed on the fruit farms and plantations that once covered the area: a giant pineapple to climb inside, a spiky durian climbing frame, a fruit truck for toddlers and treehouse towers linked by rope bridges. Mixed ages, from toddlers on the low structures to big kids on the tall treehouse climbs.

Net Playground, Bulim Park

A park built around a rain garden, whose three-storey net playground sits under the Sky Corridor, so it's sheltered, with climbing nets, rope bridges and an enclosed slide. Rooster and treehouse playgrounds, Parc Flora @ Tengah

A treehouse on a hilltop, two towers linked by bridges and climbed by rope ladders and net ramps, with a spiral tube slide back down, and below it a giant rooster with blue wings that little ones climb up inside to peek out of its head. Spider web playground, Jurong West Street 64

A climbing playground like a giant spider web, with rope pyramids on yellow poles joined by climbing nets and a rope bridge, and an orange and grey tube slide. Kids who love to climb.

The Arena @ Keat Hong, Choa Chu Kang

A mega playground beside futsal, basketball and badminton courts, with towers of climbing nets and slides for bigger kids, one of them a treehouse, and a pirate ship with parent-and-child swings for toddlers. Part of it is wheelchair-friendly. Families with kids of different ages and abilities, wheelchair users included, since toddlers and bigger kids each have their own area.

The Potter's Garden, Jurong Innovation District

A five-hectare park of ponds, wetlands and trails lined with ceramic art, next to Singapore's last two dragon kilns. Its two playgrounds sit in the shade of mature trees: a tall rope pyramid over a sand pit, and a wooden play structure for make-believe, with swings and see-saws. Families after a quiet nature outing, with play for both younger and older kids.

Train playground, Teck Whye View

A train-themed playground with a steam locomotive and carriages to climb through, a tall water tower play structure with a clock face, rope climbs and tube slides, and a smaller train for younger kids. Train fans, with the big train and tower for older kids and a smaller train for little ones.

Villa Verde Park

A neighbourhood park whose extension under the Kranji Expressway viaduct has a railway-themed playground and a nature playgarden inspired by the old Rail Corridor, with grass mounds like the hills the trains ran through, a sandpit and a butterfly garden.
